This July, Jon Burgerman and heliumcowboy artspace will set up the Lossy Data Lab (NY 2009) again. For another time, Jon will explore the boundaries of art and scientific research in a neo-dadaistic manner:

"The Lossy Data Lab has had to relocate and move it’s research into botany after a lot of the data from NYC seemed in conclusive and corrupted. The lab also ran out of money. It felt studying plant life, observing new species and creating its own hybrid forms would be a better use of its merge resources.

Also, through pure chance and accident the lab has discovered some of the plants it’s cultivating have special medicinal properties. We’d like to state that the lab is in no way going to purely focus it’s energies growing and selling such specimens to the down trodden and hedonistic thrill seekers of society." (Jon Burgerman)

heliumcowboy artspace is looking forward to welcome Jon Burgerman back in town. “The Lossy Botany Lab” is the second solo exhibition of the young british artist in Hamburg that brings together a whole series of new works including soft sculp-tures, paintings, drawings as well as a botanical installation on site.

Jon Burgerman (*1979 in Birmingham, UK) has built a strong reputation through his recognisable and colourful artworks of swooping, intertwining lines and hyper-emotional characters. In his mindful doodles and drawings, he tirelessly captures the images he is surrounded by. There is no distinction between figurative and abstract in them. Instead, he allows his lines to dance between those categories, softening the boundaries between the inside and the oustide, and also between high and low art.

Besides his work as an artist, he is also an illustrator and designs products and collectibles that are in high demand. Nothing is safe from his pen.

Not even the audience. The forthcoming exhibition will also be an extension of the “Lossy Data Lab“ presented by the artist at Scope Art Fair New York in 2009. This performance and installation – inspired by dada and fluxus – included the visitors of the fair. A special art laboratory was set up in order to research lossy data through questionnaires, word association games, psychological profiling, and spacial awareness tests. Based on the results of the various tests that involved guinea pigs (the visitors) artworks were created during the fair and following on.

Flo Heim got 1st place at 3star TTR in an indoorslope

Last weekend, Flo went to neuss (close to düsseldorf, Germany) to ride a 3star TTR Slopestyle Contest in an indoorslope. It was the first time ever for him to ride indoor and it was also the first time where an indoorslope hosted a 3star TTR contest.
In the mens class there were about 60 competitors and Jonel Fricke was also there (german Apo Teamrider). They both made it into the finals of the best 10 mens and in the end Jonel ended up at place 4 and Flo got 1th place. Congrats guys!

APO @ BOARDSOURCE Mag

Cedric Le Cordroch (APO Communication manager) tells SOURCE about the most sought after items for 2011.

1) What’s the big news for 2010/11 in your snowboard line?

This year, one of the finest European riders, “Gérome Mathieu”, has his pro-model. The duck on his board actually comes from from his nickname, “Coin-coin” (yes, that’s the duck sound in French). This year, his board is available in 6 sizes (154 – 156 – 155 m_wide – 158 m_wide – 159 wide – 163 s_wide)

2) What’s happening with camber, rocker, flex and shape in general?

We have added a couple more rocker boards this year: the Seed, the Isis and the Line. We also have 2 boards with no camber: we call that "flat cut" and you can find it on the Talent and the BC. We also have reduced our normal camber to 5 mm.

3) What’s up with cores and construction?

We have developed new carbon strips for our high level freeriding and all mountain boards, the carbon has a V shape, on the tail only for the Apocalypse and tip and tail for the BC.

4) What kind of riding is driving these changes?

By adding more rocker boards, flat cut boards and by reducing the camber on our other boards, we have made our range more forgiving, more playful and easier to turn.

5) What’s the story on your graphics for 2010/11? Who’s behind them?

There are two opposite and cohabiting trends currently in the industry: more colorful graphics, and more simple & discreet graphics. We have always wanted our boards to stand out which explains why we are work with many different graphic designers, in order to have variety in our range, even if we have an APO style that is unmistakable! Artists we have worked with include Nico Thomas, iLK, E Boy, Warren Heise, Jean Linnhoff, Sarah Buscail, Mizzo, A Vasmoulakis, Milk.

6) What makes your boards different from other boards out there?

Next year’s boards at APO still follow our philosophy: to provide our customers with boards that have the perfect blend of pleasure, feel and performance. We want people to have fun with our boards as from their first run with them

7) How will your terms of business with shops be different for 2010/11?

The shops were more careful with their pre-orders due to the global economic crisis and the brands have produced less extra stock than in previous years, so stores could be out of stock quite fast this year. We actually all hope that will be the case!
